Inlays and onlays add support to damaged back teeth. They are used when a patient requires more support than a filling, yet less support than a crown. We will advise which treatment best suits your dental needs.
Inlays are placed within the four cusps (or corners) of a tooth, whilst onlays are placed over the cusps of a tooth, providing extra coverage.
These effective dental restorations can be made from gold, porcelain or resin.
We can fit your inlay or onlay over the course of two appointments,
Initially we will need to take impressions of your teeth so that our laboratory can create your individualised restoration. Also, during this first appointment, your Meadows Dental Care dentist will carry out any preparatory work that is needed on the affected tooth. This may entail removing the damaged section of enamel. We may place a temporary ‘cap’ on the prepared tooth to ensure your continued comfort until the next appointment.
At the next stage of treatment, your permanent inlay or onlay will be ready for fitting.
Inlays and onlays are hardwearing and can last for a number of years if cared for properly. We will advise on how to care for you dental restoration.
