A traditional denture is an excellent replacement for missing teeth. Although worn comfortably by millions of people all over the world, a shared experience of all denture wearers, is the unwelcome movement of the appliance or rubbing against the gums.
At Meadows Dental Care, we offer implant retained dentures to improve the appliance’s placement and ensure you don’t have to worry about any unexpected movement.
Instead of relying on denture adhesive to hold the appliance in place, implant retained dentures are clipped onto metallic screws which have been embedded into the jaw bone. This gives them a solid foundation and greatly reduces the chance of them slipping out of place.
To see if you are suitable for implant retained dentures we will need to ascertain the quality of your jawbone and whether it can support the implants.
Once this has been determined, we will proceed with treatment. This will entail a number of titanium screws being implanted into the jawbone during one visit. These screws will act as anchors for the denture which will easily clip on and off them.
You will need a few months to heal, and we will provide a temporary denture to minimise any discomfort or difficulty in the interim.
An implant retained denture can be removed for cleaning and sleeping as usual.
